Crete High School Football

Simply the Best

The dream for the senior class was created during their seventh grade football season. They had one goal - Win the State Class B Football title. Every game showed a little more character and a lot more passion. Even with some setbacks and defeats, the drive was kept alive by all the players challenging each other to do their best. Saturday night was most bittersweet victory that the Crete Cardinals had won all year. Nobody gave them a chance to beat a much bigger Elkhorn team. Their student body is over twice the size of Crete and they were undefeated coming into the State Championship game.

The only people that seemed to think that Crete had a chance was our players, coaches and fans. The west side of Memorial Stadium was loud and the fans were rocking to support the Cardinals. Cody Wockenfuss put the Cardinals ahead on a 74 yard punt return that had all ten players have key blocks during the return. The defense never let Elkhorn get any momentum and our offense made hugh plays during the game.

The coaching staff, players and fans deserve all the credit on a "GREAT FOOTBALL SEASON" and winning the Class B State Football Championship. It is nice to see a "team" effort finally pay off!!!!

Congratulations to the players and coaches!!!
