Dr. Osborne visits Crete High School and speaks to students about choices that they will make in their lifetime.

Crete area TeamMates traveled to the Qwest Center in Omaha on Sunday, January 8, 2006 to watch the Creighton Bluejays defeat Drake University.

Carnac (alias Kyle McGowan) and his sidekick (alias Bob Muckel) provided rib tickling entertainment.

Crete TeamMates in the 5th-11th grade got the pleasure of meeting Dr. Tom Osborne at a brief 20 minute stop over before a speaking engagement at Doane College. "The kids were thrilled to get to meet Dr. Osborne," said Marilea Thiem, TeamMates Coordinator. "Although there wasn't much time the kids got a group picture and then Dr. Osborne took time to answer their questions. I think the best part for the mentees was the excitement of meeting a Nebraska legend and getting to go home and back to their classrooms and telling everyone they just had their picture taken with DR. TOM OSBORNE!"

What is a Mentor?

A mentor is someone who, along with parents, provides young people with support, counsel, friendship, reinforcement, and constructive example.  Mentors are good listeners.  They are people who care and who want to help young people bring out their strengths.

TeamMates of Nebraska/Crete Receives Grant

Crete Middle School TeamMates has received a $500 grant from the Exxon/Mobil Educational Alliance program. Stanley Mills owner of Denton’s Mill’s Squeegee worked with school officials to secure the grant, which is one of 4000 available to schools across the country, served by Exxon/Mobil stations. The grants were made possible by funding from the Exxon/Mobil Corportation.

The money will be used by the Crete Middle School TeamMates office to purchase a digital camera and by the Crete Elementary TeamMates office to purchase games for the mentor/mentee meeting times.

Why Should You Get Involved?

Young people need positive, successful  role models and need guidance in setting and achieving goals.  You'll find that the relationship works two ways.  You stand to gain from the insights of the young people, and helping them succeed is a great source of satisfaction.  All it takes is a positive attitude and one hour a week.©
