As we progress through the 2022-2023 school year, I will use this weekly update to address topics and hopefully clear up any confusion I am aware of. Paying or not paying for school lunch and breakfast is a topic causing some confusion. During the pandemic, the federal school lunch program made lunch and breakfast free for all students. Since the pandemic is over, the school lunch program has returned to "normal." However, two CPS schools qualify for another program called the Community Eligibility Program or CEP, which provides free breakfast and lunch for all students in those buildings. The two CPS buildings are the Intermediate and Middle School. Regardless of which building your students attend, you must complete the federal free and reduced-priced meal application. Hopefully, this breakdown will help bring some clarity.
Crete Elementary = Pay, Reduced, or Free - "Normal"
Crete Intermediate = CEP Eligible - Free breakfast and lunch for all
Crete Middle School = CEP Eligible - Free breakfast and lunch for all
Crete High School = Pay, Reduced, or Free - "Normal"
Next week is Homecoming! Crete High School and the Crete Booster Club have great activities planned for students, families, and the community. This Sunday, August 28, the Booster Club is hosting a Bonfire/Pep Rally at Tuxedo Park starting at 6:30 PM. Come and enjoy $1 food items, games, and old-time fun. Our team captains and cheerleaders will also be there! The Booster Club is bringing back the homecoming parade. The parade is on Friday, September 2, at 4 PM. and will begin on 9th and Main Avenue. Several CPS students and activities will be represented. The parade will conclude with a tailgate and pep rally downtown. The football game will kick off at 7:00 PM at Doane.
It is a busy time of year for our CPS students and families, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I hope to see you at any of our upcoming events. If you're unsure what events are on the calendar, head to the new website and check out the CPS Activity Calendar.
Be well, and Go Cards!
