Welcome to the Crete Family Literacy Program, where we empower families through education and engagement. Our program is designed to support both parents and children in their educational journeys, creating a nurturing environment that fosters lifelong learning and success.

Program Eligibility and Focus

This program is specifically for parents who have at least one child attending Crete Public Schools in grades preschool through 12th grade, are in need of adult education services (such as ESL or GED® preparation), and are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how they can help their child succeed. Additionally, our program focuses on building parent leaders and helping them engage with schools and the community. The primary goal of our family literacy program is to help parents become the first and most important teachers in their children's lives.

Four-Component Model

Our Family Literacy Program utilizes a comprehensive four-component model to address the diverse needs of families. This model, developed by the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL), has been shown to significantly impact family well-being and educational success.

1. Adult Education: This component, in partnership with the Crete Adult Education Program, offers adult learners opportunities to improve their literacy, numeracy, and English language skills or earn a high school equivalency diploma. The adult education program helps parents enhance their own educational attainment, opening doors to better job opportunities and personal growth.

2. PACT Time®: We create opportunities for parents and children to learn and grow together through interactive literacy activities. PACT Time® involves parents and children engaging in educational activities together, both within program hours and beyond, in various settings such as classrooms, libraries, and community spaces. These activities strengthen family bonds and promote a culture of learning within the home.

3. Parent Education: We provide parents with the knowledge and skills needed to support their children's education and development. This includes workshops, classes, and resources on topics such as effective parenting strategies, child development, educational advocacy, and community resources.

4. Child Education: Crete Public Schools delivers high-quality education and school readiness programs for children preschool through 12th grade. Our goal is to ensure that every child is prepared for academic success, fostering a love for learning from an early age. Our educational programming supports children's academic growth, social-emotional learning, and physical development.

Partnerships and Legacy Programs

We are proud partners with the National Centers for Families Learning (NCFL), a leader in family literacy and engagement. Our program is also a legacy program through the Nebraska Statewide Family Engagement Center (SFEC) program. The SFEC is a federal grant administered by NCFL in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) and the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation.

Through these partnerships, we provide comprehensive support and resources to our families, ensuring they have access to the best educational opportunities available. Our collaboration with NCFL and SFEC enhances our ability to serve the community effectively and sustainably.
